User Guide for Tenda 4G/5G Routers with Starlink

I. Overview & Compatible Devices

Compatible Tenda Devices: Full range of Tenda 4G/5G routers (including models 4G08, 5G03, 5G06, etc.)

Core Advantages of the Combination

Starlink Gen 3 provides a stable satellite network, while the Tenda 4G/5G router can act as the primary router for centralized network management. It also supports 4G/5G failover functionality — when satellite signals are interrupted or experience high latency, the network automatically switches to mobile data, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for scenarios such as office work and video streaming.

II. Preparations & Device Deployment

1. Pre-connection Checks

Starlink Status: Ensure the Gen 3 device has been properly deployed outdoors. For Standard/Maritime editions, install in an unobstructed open area; the Mini edition can be placed indoors near a window. After powering on, a steady green indicator light indicates successful initialization.

Account Activation: For newly activated Starlink services, first visit starlink.com/activate to activate your account and ensure the satellite network is functioning properly.

III. Detailed Connection & Configuration Steps

1. Hardware Connection (Core Step)

Take a Gigabit network cable. Insert one end into the "WAN/LAN Combo Port" of the Starlink Gen 3 device (2 ports for Standard/Maritime editions, 1 port for Mini edition), and connect the other end to the "WAN/LAN" port of the Tenda 4G/5G router (marked as "Internet" on some models).

Power on both the Starlink Gen 3 device and the Tenda router separately. Wait for 2-3 minutes and observe the device indicators: a steady green light on Starlink indicates a normal physical connection.

You may refer to videos on YouTube by searching "how to connect Starlink to a third-party router" for reference.

2. Enable Starlink Bypass Mode

To avoid network conflicts caused by dual routing between Starlink and Tenda, Bypass Mode must be enabled. Follow these steps:

  • Open the Starlink mobile app, log in with your activated account, and access the device management interface.

  • Tap "Settings" → "Advanced", find "Bypass Mode" and tap to enable it.

After activation, the Starlink Gen 3 device will light up a purple indicator, which will automatically turn off after 1 hour. This is a normal phenomenon, indicating that Bypass Mode has taken effect.

Note: Bypass Mode will disable Starlink's built-in WiFi. All terminal devices must connect to the network through the Tenda router.

3. Tenda Router Configuration

Internet Mode Configuration: Refer to the official guide here (https://www.tendacn.com/material/show/734891506675781).

4. Network Connection Verification

After completing the configuration, connect your terminal device to the Tenda router via WiFi or a wired connection. Open a browser and visit any webpage; if it loads normally, the network configuration is successful. Meanwhile, you can check the real-time speed and latency data of the Starlink primary network and 4G/5G backup network in the "Network Status" section of the Tenda management interface.

IV. Common Issues & Solutions

1. Starlink App Displays "Device Unreachable"

This issue requires setting up a static route on the Tenda router. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Tenda management interface and navigate to "Advanced Settings" → "Static Routing".
  2. Fill in the configuration with the following parameters (the specific option names may vary slightly by Tenda model, please refer to the actual interface):
  • Network Destination: 192.168.100.0
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.100.1
  • Interface: WAN Port
  1. Save the configuration, restart the Tenda router, and reopen the Starlink App to access it normally.

2. 4G/5G Backup Network Fails to Switch Automatically

  • Check the SIM Card: Ensure the SIM card is activated and has available data. Reinsert the SIM card to ensure good contact.
  • Manual Test: Tap "Manually Switch to 4G/5G" in "Network Status". If you still cannot access the Internet, contact the SIM card operator to troubleshoot signal or permission issues.

3. Slow Network Speed or Frequent Disconnections

Starlink Side Troubleshooting:
Ensure the antenna is not blocked.Restart the Starlink device (power off for 30 seconds, then power on again).Check the satellite signal strength via the App (must be ≥ 70).
