Welcome back to the second part of our article. More and more of our gadgets and gizmos now rely on Wi-Fi. Slow internet speed and signal drops can be a real frustration. Everybody wants a faster and reliable internet connection. If you have read our previous 5 tips on Things I wish knew about Wi-Fi, here are some more.

1.Your Router can protect itself, you just choose how safe you need it to be.


There's more than one way to protect your Wi-Fi connection from snooping neighbours or malicious attackers. A combination of simple protection and solid password protection will keep the most eager uninvited visitors out. You can cloak router in plain sight. If they can't see your Wi-Fi network, they probably can't connect to it. You can keep prying eyes away from your router by hiding its SSID and forcing everyone who wants in, to guess the SSID manually. You can toggle the SSID broadcast option in the firmware settings of your router. While your SSID is hidden, it won't show up if you're setting up new devices or scanning for a connection on your smartphone. Also, consider changing your default administrator username and password. 2.Guest access and Parental Control


When setting up a home or business network, its easy to allow access for guests . Most routers on the market today contain a facility to easily set up guest access to your Wi-Fi network. Whereas, Parental controls aren't simply for stopping kids from visiting inappropriate websites but also really useful for managing traffic to website that should not be accessed during company working hours. It is so 2017 to install filtering software on each computer or device for safe networking when you can implement a network-wide solution from your router. You can of course include an additional layer of security protection for your network.

3.Recycle your old router into a range extender.

Do your bit for the environment and instead of throwing away your old router, chain it to an additional access point. Powerline network adapters are quite a good option to extend your wireless network's reach, but they won't work across separate circuits. When you need to extend your network and power line network adapters won't do, the next best option is to put your old router to use and turn it into a wireless bridge. It's a quick, simple and inexpensive solution which can help double the distance of your Wi-Fi signal travel in most scenarios.

4. Limit devices and optimize settings. Online activities such as playing games, conducting video chats, and streaming movies (the fun stuff!) can rinse your bandwidth. Slowing down Internet speed and access for everyone connected to that Wi-Fi network will make you unpopular. Surprisingly, some routers have a quality of service setting that lets you manage which apps have priority access to the Internet bandwidth. For example, you may want to play online games at the same time limit massive downloads. Setting up limits on devices will help keep most peple happy.

5.Mesh Wi-Fi systems are phenomenal


Mesh Wi-Fi systems are designed to cover every corner of your home. There's a main router that connects directly to your modem, and a series of nodes or access points, that you place throughout your house. They are all part of a single wireless network and share the same SSID and password. Unlike range extenders, which communicate with the router via the 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio bands, most Wi-Fi system satellites use mesh technology to talk to the router and to each other. If you wish to have a whole another level of Wi-Fi experience, mesh technology is the real deal. Oh and they are very easy to set up and no need for a series of tutorials. Plug them in and play.
